Occupational Therapy

About Michael Tambone, OTD, OTR/L

Education & Background: I graduated from Creighton University in 2018 with a B.A. in Psychology and with my OTD in 2021. As an occupational therapist specializing in behavioral health, I treat individuals across the lifespan presenting with a wide range of mental health diagnoses. This includes, but is not limited to, mood disorders (e.g., major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder), anxiety disorders (e.g., generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, PTSD), psychotic disorders (e.g., schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder), personality disorders, and substance use disorders. Some approaches I utilize include: sensory integration principles, emotional regulation strategies, habit and routine formation, ADL/IADL participation, community reintegration, and socialization and interpersonal skills training.

Philosophy of Care: My philosophy of care is rooted in the belief that every individual, regardless of their mental health challenges, possesses inherent strengths and the capacity for meaningful engagement in life. I am passionately committed to empowering individuals to regain a sense of purpose, functional independence, and overall well-being through the therapeutic use of occupation. I strive to create a collaborative and client-centered environment where individuals feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their recovery journey. My passion lies in helping individuals reconnect with their values, discover adaptive coping mechanisms, and build sustainable habits that enable them to navigate life's complexities with greater resilience and fulfillment.

Why I became an Occupational Therapist: I became an occupational therapist because I was drawn to the holistic perspective of the profession. Occupational therapy focuses on treating the whole person: mind, body, and soul. With my background in psychology and interest in physical function, the profession's person-centered approach to health and recovery led me to dedicate my career to occupational therapy. I first understood the utility and benefits of occupational therapy with family members using services and seeing great benefits in their meaningful daily occupations, and my desire for this career path grew from there.
